In an event that brought together nearly 200 people, the Maratué project team explained the next steps of the initiative to housing committees, residents, and authorities of Puchuncaví. The project envisions the construction of up to 14,180 homes over a 45-year period. Claudia Lería, Maratué’s executive director, explained that the project’s ethos emphasizes sustainability and that, therefore, “we have worked on a design that fills us with pride, as it addresses two very relevant challenges today: urban development and environmental protection.” After an extensive evaluation process, the Environmental Assessment Commission (COEVA) approved the project in October 2024. With this milestone, Maratué received its Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA), allowing them to begin outlining the next steps to bring construction to fruition.

The project, which aims to allocate 70% of its units to primary residences and two thousand subsidized homes, and which envisions the construction of up to 14,180 homes over a 45-year period, will enter a new phase in January 2025. According to those present at the event, the next step for Maratué in 2025 will be the engineering and construction phases, which will be carried out gradually. Sectoral approvals will also be obtained, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Along these lines, the project team indicated that, initially, they will proceed with the construction of subsidized homes. “We are working with various housing committees in conjunction with EP Carlos Carrillos and the local authorities, and the goal is for the first 300 houses to be for residents of Puchuncaví. Our commitment to the families of the community has been our top priority, and for this reason, we want to allocate the land to work together with SERVIU,” he added. Meanwhile, Amay Villarroel, leader of the Alto Ventanas Housing Committees, stated, “We are very happy with this giant step forward so that more than a thousand people who have been waiting for their homes for over 15 years can now aspire to a solution with Maratué. We will continue working so that members of the housing committees can access their own decent homes and remain in their community.”
