14The president of the Valparaíso Regional Chamber of Commerce (CRCP), Javier Torrejón, praised the approval of the Maratué project in the municipality of Puchuncaví, highlighting that the decision sends “a clear signal of certainty and allows for progress in investment” in the region.
“We are talking about an initiative with an estimated investment of between US$2 billion and US$2.5 billion, which projects the construction of 14,000 homes over a 45-year period, positioning it as one of the largest-scale projects in the region,” he commented.
The development will be located between the towns of Maitencillo and Horcón, and incorporates, among other features, areas designated for environmental conservation, with 70% of the land intended for primary residences and nearly 50% of its surface area dedicated to green spaces.
According to the developers, Maratué is a long-term primary residence (70%) project that aims to support the region’s growth. In this regard, the plan considers building—over a 45-year timeframe—a maximum of 14,180 homes (with 50% green spaces), at a rate of 300 housing units per year, to ensure the continuity of the municipality’s urban center.
Of these homes, at least 2,000 will be eligible for subsidies, built through Serviu projects.
Along these lines, Torrejón emphasized the impact on regional economic recovery, stating that “this type of decision reinforces the importance of having an institutional framework that provides certainty and allows progress on projects that drive growth, while also incorporating sustainability criteria and long-term planning.”
He added that “it is crucial that these projects are developed with a strong connection to the local area, properly integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions, to move towards balanced and sustainable development for the region.”
