The visit was part of the “Open Classroom” program and aims to create new learning spaces. On Thursday, November 30, more than 30 teachers from schools in various municipalities of the Valparaíso Region visited Quirilluca Park in Puchuncaví, exploring the cliffs, the forest, and Quirilluca Beach. The visit was part of the “Open Classroom” program, advised by Playa Ancha University, and aimed to encourage teachers to connect with nature so they can later guide their students to explore open spaces.
Organized by the Provincial Directorate of Education, the General Velásquez School of Puchuncaví, and the administrator of the Maratué private conservation area, this initiative seeks to develop training projects in the pursuit of building a quality and inclusive education.
María Alejandra Torres, Head of the Provincial Department of Valparaíso and Easter Island, highlighted the importance of creating new learning spaces. “We need education to take place not only in classrooms, but also in other spaces that can enhance students’ skills, strengthen school relationships, and foster creativity.”
The activity was led by Franco Venegas, the socio-environmental coordinator for Maratué, and included the participation of teachers who plan to visit Quirilluca Park with their students next year.

Solange Vega, a special education teacher at the Mantagua School in Quintero, expressed her gratitude for the visit. “I love these activities because they serve as open classrooms, which is exactly what’s needed in education today. These spaces allow us to forge strong connections and open new paths to learning.”
Fernando Retamal, a professor at the University of Playa Ancha, indicated that these opportunities are very valuable for teachers and appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants.
Any educational institution in the Valparaíso Region that wishes to receive training on the area’s natural heritage can join this initiative led by the Provincial Directorate of Education.
